Wrapping up an extended series in the book of Leviticus called “Two Men Enter, One Man Leaves” (built on the idea that surrendering personal will to Christ means one version of self has to die so a new one can live) Brian closed with Leviticus 6:8-13, the instructions for the burnt offering. He walked through the priest’s daily routine: dressing in linen undergarments, tending the altar overnight, removing the ashes each morning, changing back into ordinary clothes to carry them outside the camp, then dressing again to keep the fire burning. The repeated, unglamorous nature of the task was the point: keeping the fire from ever going out required faithful attention every single day, not just occasional dramatic sacrifice.
Brian tied this directly back to the series’ core challenge: is Jesus merely a personal savior, or is he the actual “boss” and leader of daily decisions? Just as the priest couldn’t let the altar fire go out even once, surrendering to Christ’s leadership isn’t a one-time decision but a daily, sometimes mundane practice of tending what’s already been lit rather than assuming it will keep burning on its own.
