This week Brian camped on one line from 1 Thessalonians 4 and broke it into two words: holy, and called. To make holiness land, he held up two identical batteries, nothing changes about either one except that it gets set apart for a specific purpose. That’s what holy means: set apart, not better, not different in substance, just set aside.

Called goes deeper than it sounds. In the Greek it’s not just a summons: it’s an invitation, the same language Jesus uses in his parable of the banquet, where a king sends his servants into the highways and byways to bring people in. That reframes the whole verse: “Religion demands outward adherence. Jesus invites us into relationship that evokes inward holiness.” God isn’t handing us a standard and walking away, he equips what he invites.

Brian closed with the Emancipation Proclamation: a person can be legally free and still live like a slave if they never find out the document was signed. Tribe is being invited to actually walk in what’s already been given.
