With Brian and Lissa away, longtime Tribe member Renee stepped in to continue the “Two Men Enter, One Man Leaves” Leviticus series, taking the church into chapter 8 and the ordination of Aaron and his sons as priests. She walked through the ceremony’s specific, physical details (washing, dressing in priestly garments, anointing oil poured out, and blood applied to the priests’ bodies) and asked the congregation to identify what each element represented: oil as a picture of the Holy Spirit keeping a life running smoothly, and blood as the mark of consecration, being set apart and made holy.
Renee spent significant time on the imagery of the dove, connecting the anointing oil poured on Aaron’s head to the Holy Spirit descending on Jesus “like a dove” at his baptism, while pushing back on the idea of the Holy Spirit as merely gentle or decorative.
